Speaking at the Indo-American Chamber of Commerce (IACC) National Convention 2026 in Mumbai, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis spoke about the 165-acre Medicity coming up next to the new Mumbai airport.
The CM informed that Cleveland Clinic has recently signed up as the anchor hospital for the Medicity. He said the project is being envisioned as an advanced hub for healthcare, medtech and research.
“We are developing 165 acres Medicity next to our new Mumbai airport. And delighted to inform you that the world’s foremost cardiac health facility, Cleveland Clinic, has recently signed up with us to become the anchor hospital at our base. Medicity is envisioned to be the most advanced place for healthcare, medtech and research.”
Fadnavis said the Medicity will bring hospitals, pharma companies, medtech companies, universities, researchers and investors into one ecosystem.
India’s scale, US innovation
The Medicity is also part of a larger India-US healthcare opportunity, Fadnavis said at the convention.
He said healthcare is one of the clearest examples of India’s scale. The US has some of the world’s strongest capabilities in medical research, advanced therapies, medical devices and healthcare technology. The opportunity is to bring these strengths together.
He pointed to new therapies, medical devices, AI in diagnosis and treatment, digital health and advanced healthcare infrastructure as key areas of opportunity.
He said that India can be the world’s healthcare scale engine. America can be one of its innovation engines. Maharashtra can help connect these two.
That could give Maharashtra a larger role in the India-US healthcare relationship. It also fits with the state’s wider push to attract US technology, research and investment.
The aim is to bring different parts of the ecosystem together. Fadnavis said the solutions developed through this ecosystem could ultimately serve India and the world.
Sergio Gor, US Ambassador to India, also spoke about the wider India-US opportunity at the IACC National Convention.
“Simply put, when the US and India work together, we integrate value chains, accelerate breakthroughs in critical technologies, and strengthen supply chain resilience.”
Gor also highlighted the trust between the two countries, particularly in pharma, where India supplies 40 per cent of US generic pharma.
For healthcare, that trust could open the door to deeper collaboration in research, technology, advanced therapies and medical devices.
Maharashtra’s pitch
Fadnavis is positioning Maharashtra as a platform for US companies looking at India and global growth. The pitch comes as the state seeks to expand its role across technology, advanced manufacturing, healthcare and biotechnology.
The IACC National Convention 2026 brought this larger India-US opportunity into focus. IACC leadership said the relationship has moved beyond traditional parameters and is increasingly built around a shared vision and shared future. The chamber also sees significant opportunities for Indian and American companies to work together.
For healthcare, Maharashtra is making a clear proposition. Bring global healthcare expertise, Indian scale, research, technology and investment into one ecosystem to build solutions that can serve India and the world.
