The future of healthcare-at-home in India is both promising and transformative

Aditya Gupta, Founder, Kyno Health, talks about the rise in healthcare-at-home services, the role of technology in enabling personalised healthcare and the growth plan of Kyno Health in an interview with Kavita Jani

What gap did you identify within the Indian healthcare market that led you to establish Kyno Health?

The idea for Kyno Health took shape in 2023, inspired by a simple but powerful belief: accessing quality medical care shouldn’t be difficult, delayed, or stressful. It should be instant, comforting, human, and something that fits seamlessly into everyday life.

Having grown up in a family of doctors, I was fortunate to always have medical support within arm’s reach. But after moving to a new city, I saw just how inaccessible that same level of care was for many around me. That’s when the idea truly clicked — what if dependable medical guidance could be just a tap away, available anytime, from the comfort of your home?

But it wasn’t just about convenience. I began to notice a larger, systemic issue. In India, primary care — the first and most important step in any health journey — is highly fragmented. Each clinic operates differently, making the experience confusing, inconsistent, and often frustrating for patients. There was clearly a need for a unified, reliable, and empathetic solution. That’s exactly what we set out to build with Kyno — a compassionate, consistent, tech-enabled gateway to healthcare. Our mission is to make reliable medical care accessible at home within just 20 minutes by combining advanced technology, genuine compassion, and a patient-first mindset.

Has there been a rise in healthcare-at-home services in India? What factors are driving the market growth?

In India, the home healthcare market is expected to grow to a $19.9 billion market by 2025. In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, India’s healthcare system underwent a fundamental transformation. Traditional models of care — long hospital queues, impersonal consultations, and delayed appointments — no longer meet the expectations of today’s urban consumer. The rise of remote work, increased health awareness, and digital adoption have accelerated a shift toward convenience-first, patient-centric healthcare.

Urban millennials and Gen Z, who now make up a significant portion of the working population, are driving this change. They seek services that are on-demand, hyper-personalised, tech-enabled, and accessible at home. At the same time, India is witnessing a surge in chronic diseases, a growing retired population, and increased need for elderly care, creating urgent demand for alternatives to hospital-based treatment. These behavioural shifts have turned into demand drivers for the rise of healthcare-at-home services in India. Kyno Health has emerged as a key player in this ecosystem, offering doctor consultations, diagnostic facilities, nursing care, elderly care, and chronic disease management, all at the comfort of your home.

How does Kyno manage its operations outside of traditional hospital settings while maintaining medical accountability? How does Kyno leverage technology?

At Kyno, we’ve built a robust ecosystem where operational efficiency and medical accountability go hand in hand:

  • Doctor screening & training: Every Kyno doctor is selected following a strict evaluation process and undergoes specially designed training programs. Doctors also have emergency care experience and have worked in top hospitals like AIIMS and Fortis. All prescriptions are reviewed for clinical accuracy by our in-house Medical Excellence (MedEx) team to ensure the highest standards.
  • Follow-up systems: Beyond consultations, our platform ensures smooth patient-doctor interactions like follow-ups, clarification callbacks, and post-treatment support.
  • Integrated platforms: We use advanced technology to enable seamless discovery, booking, and tracking for a consultation. Features such as GPS-enabled forms and automated doctor dispatch ensure reduced response times.
  • Transparency: Patients can view detailed doctor profiles and track their arrival

What are the limitations of providing at-home healthcare services? What are some current innovations being used to bridge the gap?

While at-home healthcare presents its fair share of challenges, each hurdle also opens the door to meaningful innovation. One is convincing people that the care they receive at home is just as robust as what they would get in a clinic or hospital. To tackle this, we have set a benchmark of 25+ minutes per consultation, which is far above average. This additional time allows for better diagnoses and builds trust with our patients.

Another challenge is that of accessibility. This is tackled by our platform, which is designed to be intuitive, fuss-free, and requires minimal inputs for booking a consultation. For customer satisfaction, seamless integration with third-party vendors for diagnostics and medication delivery ensures patients don’t have to worry about the what next” after the doctor leaves. It is this holistic approach that helps overcome the limitations of at-home care.

What role does technology play in enabling on-demand and personalised healthcare services at home?

Technology is not just an enabler but a true catalyst in transforming how personalised and on-demand healthcare services are delivered at home. It has made it possible to extend hospital-like care into the comfort and safety of one’s living space. With the help of home telemonitoring devices, vital signs, symptoms, and even weight can be tracked in real time and reported directly to remote healthcare providers or home health agencies. This real-time data flow ensures that any irregularities are caught early, enabling timely medical intervention.

Technologies like fall detection systems add another layer of safety, especially for seniors or those with mobility issues, by automatically alerting caregivers or emergency responders when a fall is detected. Wearable devices are easily available and monitor key health metrics such as heart rate, blood pressure, and glucose levels, offering constant visibility into a person’s health status without the need for frequent clinic visits.

Moreover, the data collected through tech-enabled healthcare can be used to build comprehensive digital health profiles of patients. These profiles can record past consultations, treatments, and outcomes. This promotes continuity in care, transparency, and more informed decision-making by both patients and healthcare professionals. At Kyno Health, we focus on personalising the patient’s healthcare journey by creating detailed digital profiles that not only provide a ready reckoner for the patient’s history but also pair up with an automated reminder system for follow-ups.

How do you see the future of healthcare-at-home services in India shaping up in the future? What’s next for Kyno Health in terms of innovation, expansion, or new services?

The future of healthcare-at-home in India is both promising and transformative. With rapid urbanisation, evolving lifestyles, and rising patient expectations, there is a growing demand for convenient, accessible, and personalised medical care. At-home healthcare fits seamlessly into this shift, offering patients the comfort of receiving trusted care without stepping out.

At Kyno, our vision is to become a household name for primary healthcare at home—one that Indians across cities can rely on for consistent, high-quality medical support. Looking ahead, we are expanding both in scope and scale. While doctor consultations remain our core offering, we are actively deepening our healthcare ecosystem by integrating a broader range of allied services, such as diagnostics, physiotherapy, nursing care, and chronic disease management. This will allow us to offer more comprehensive, end-to-end care directly at the patient’s doorstep.

From an innovation standpoint, we are exploring investments in AI and data-driven technologies. Whether it’s using predictive analytics for faster doctor dispatch or harnessing patient data to recommend more effective treatment pathways, we believe technology will be a powerful enabler in improving clinical outcomes and patient satisfaction.

Our vision is strategically aligned with what Indians need right now. We want Kyno to be the go-to name for healthcare at home, built on a foundation of trust, technology, and compassion.
