A day-long Arthroplasty Summit, featuring revision and primary complex total knee arthroplasty (TKA) techniques performed by specialists from India and abroad along with knowledge sharing sessions, was organised by Institute of Bone, Joints & Spine, Narayana Multispeciality Hospital in Jaipur. Experts at the summit included prominent names such as Dr Alfred J Tria from New Jersey, US – Clinical Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Robert Wood Johnson Medical School & Chief of Orthopaedic Surgery at St Peter’s University Hospital, New Jersey. More than 80 orthopaedic surgeons from Jaipur and neighbouring districts participated in the seminar.

The knowledge sharing sessions at the summit largely covered presentations of the case, ‘Legion Revision Design Rationale and Why TKA fails?’ through an interactive live surgery, followed by a panel discussion on TKR and arthroplasty. The summit addressed some complicated orthopaedic surgical procedure with case studies.

Dr Neeraj Aggarwal, Orthopaedic & Joint Replacement Surgeon at Narayana Multispecialty Hospital, Jaipur said, “The acceptance of revision joint replacements among patients is increasing, given the benefits of these procedures. While the quality of life improves dramatically after surgery, patient expectations from the surgical procedure are also increasing. The outcome though, is dependent on the precise surgical technique and principles used. Patient needs have been changing over the last few years; today, it’s not just about pain relief, but patients’ expectations regarding the durability of the implants. In this workshop we have addressed all the problems and preset assumptions of people about Revision joint replacements and given a clear picture about the latest advancements in effective treatment.”

Commenting on the initiative, Dr Mala Airun, Clinical Director- Narayana Multispeciality Hospital, Jaipur said, “We are very happy to organise the arthroplasty workshop and we are grateful to Dr Alfred Tria and other specialists from Jaipur who took time from their extremely busy schedule to share their expertise with other orthopaedic surgeons from this region. All this will indeed improve the quality of treatment and benefit patients”.
