Marengo Asia Hospitals launches specialised multiple sclerosis clinic
Multiple Sclerosis Society of India (MSSI) calls for early diagnosis and timely treatment
Marengo Asia Hospitals, Gurugram, has launched a dedicated “Multiple Sclerosis Clinic” on the occasion of World Multiple Sclerosis Day, observed on 30 May, to strengthen awareness, enable early diagnosis, and provide comprehensive treatment and long-term support for patients living with Multiple Sclerosis.
Speaking at the launch, Dr Praveen Gupta, Chairman, Marengo Asia International Institute of Neuro and Spine (MAIINS), Marengo Asia Hospitals Gurugram, said, “MS is an autoimmune disease that causes multiple attacks on the nervous system, leading to significant morbidity among young people. However, the good news is that if we diagnose MS early and initiate therapy promptly, we can significantly improve the patient journey and ensure that patients maintain a good quality of life.”
Dr Gupta added, “We have launched the MS Clinic to facilitate the diagnosis, treatment, and support of MS patients so that they can receive care with precision and empathy, and undergo rehabilitation that enables them to fulfil their life goals. Dr Gupta informed that on an average they treat 12–15 MS patients every month at the hospital, and the MS Clinic will be open to patients every Tuesday. To support the MSSI vision and initiative, Dr Gupta extended free consultations to their MS patients.”
Bipasha Gupta, Chairperson, Delhi Chapter, Multiple Sclerosis Society of India (MSSI), said, “Early diagnosis and timely treatment are critical because they can help prevent disability and enable patients to continue leading active and productive lives with the support of improved disease-modifying therapies.”
Meenakshi Bhujwala, Treasurer, Delhi Chapter, Multiple Sclerosis Society of India (MSSI), said, “MSSI is a registered not-for-profit organisation that has been working for the MS community for over four decades. Established in Mumbai in 1985, we now have nine chapters across India supporting patients and their families through counselling, physiotherapy, home nursing care, and other support programmes. Alongside psychological support, we also provide subsidised services and essential medicines for MS management to help patients and caregivers navigate the challenges associated with the condition.”
The launch of the specialised clinic, under the theme “Navigating MS Together”, brought together medical experts, patients, caregivers, and rehabilitation specialists. During the launch, several patients shared their stories of resilience, treatment, and hope while living with MS. Patients highlighted that early diagnosis and timely treatment had improved their quality of life, and that continued support from doctors had helped them navigate the condition.
Through this dedicated clinic, Marengo Asia Hospitals aims to provide integrated, patient-centric care that includes advanced diagnostics, disease management, counselling, rehabilitation, and long-term monitoring for Multiple Sclerosis.
