India’s first uCT Orion Elite CT scanner with calcium scoring comes to Delhi by City Imaging & Clinical Labs
The 80-slice uCT Orion Elite combines AI-assisted patient positioning, deep-learning-based motion correction and ECG-gated calcium scoring at the Dwarka centre.
Patients in Delhi can now access the uCT Orion Elite, an 80-slice AI-enabled multi-slice non-cardiac CT system installed at City Imaging & Clinical Labs’ Dwarka centre. The installation marks the first CT system from United Imaging to be introduced in the country. The system combines DELTA, a deep-learning algorithm, with Karl3D hybrid iterative reconstruction to enhance image quality. It also features Motion Freeze AI technology to reduce blurring caused by head movement, dual AI cameras to assist with patient positioning and monitoring, and automated image-quality checks. The system also supports ECG-gated calcium scoring.
Remaining still during a CT scan can be difficult for children, elderly patients and people experiencing pain or discomfort. The scanner’s Motion Freeze technology is designed to correct different types of head movement, including rotation, translation and oscillation, helping reduce motion-related artefacts that can affect image clarity. Based on deep-learning technology, the algorithm is designed to correct movement-related distortions and support clearer images.
Its DELTA technology uses a deep-learning-trained algorithm to enhance image quality and help reduce image noise, supporting clearer visualisation of anatomical structures. The uCT Orion Elite combines DELTA with Karl3D, a hybrid iterative reconstruction technology. This combination is described by the manufacturer as an industry-first integration in a CT system. The scanner supports tube voltage settings ranging from 60 kV to 140 kV and image reconstruction at a matrix size of 1024 × 1024.
Dr Aakar Kapoor, Founder & Partner & Consultant Radiologist, City Imaging & Clinical Labs, Delhi, said, “The focus of diagnostic imaging is not just on adopting advanced technology, but on making it clinically useful and accessible to patients. With the uCT Orion Elite, we are expanding our imaging capabilities while introducing calcium scoring on a non-cardiac CT platform. This reflects our approach to investing in technology that supports clinical assessment, strengthens diagnostic capabilities and addresses a wider range of patient needs at a single centre.”
The system also uses dual AI cameras, positioned above the scanner and inside its bore, to assist with patient positioning and movement monitoring. Its AI-based Qcheck quality-control platform can flag issues such as patient movement, metal-related artefacts, respiratory motion and scan-range errors. Additional features include checks related to lead-apron use and potential gantry collisions. These tools help technologists monitor the scanning process, identify potential issues and maintain consistent procedures, while trained staff remain responsible for patient safety.
The uCT Orion Elite includes an AI-based feature that can flag head CT images that may indicate bleeding within the skull. An alert draws the operator’s attention to a suspected finding for further clinical review, potentially helping the care team identify urgent cases for timely assessment.
The scanner’s ECG-gated calcium scoring provides an additional assessment option for eligible patients. The system automatically identifies and marks calcified areas and generates measurements, including a calcium score, along with volume and mass calculations. Doctors can interpret these results alongside a patient’s age, medical history and other risk factors.
With the new installation, City Imaging & Clinical Labs aims to make advanced CT imaging more accessible to patients in Dwarka and neighbouring areas. By bringing AI-assisted imaging features, deep-learning-based motion correction and ECG-gated calcium scoring together at one centre, the facility offers patients access to a broader range of diagnostic services without necessarily having to visit separate facilities for these examinations.
