HLL launches centre for medical equipment testing and calibration
HLL has launched a national centre for testing and calibration of biomedical and radiographic equipment, meeting a longstanding requirement of healthcare services.
HLL’s Centre for Testing and Calibration (CTC) is the first such government-run centre to ensure that the medical equipment and machinery used in hospitals meet the quality and operational safety standards specified by the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL) and the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB). CTC has a nationwide network providing services to institutions across the country.
Coinciding with the launch of the centre, Kerala-based HLL conducted a day-long national seminar at its Corporate R&D centre in Thiruvananthapuram to create awareness among doctors, engineers and hospital administration staff about the need of safety testing and calibration of medical equipment.
Inaugurating the seminar, Prof M Radhakrishna Pillai, Director of Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology, said, “We need to make sure that biomedical and radiological equipment in our health institutions are professionally tested and calibrated. So a centre which offers such services is very crucial and can make a noticeable difference in the quality of healthcare services we offer.”
Safety testing and calibration are essential for maintaining quality of equipment, ensuring accuracy in diagnosis and effectiveness in treatment. It ensures longer life for the machinery and reduces the equipment-related hazards for patients. It also enables hospitals and clinics to achieve the highest degree of quality control.
“HLL is a total healthcare delivery company today. HLL has 36 biomedical engineers and its Centre for Testing and Calibration aims to address concerns regarding efficacy, safety and reliability of medical equipment. It will be a solution to avoid any chances of equipment hazards in patient care,” said Dr M Ayyappan, Chairman and MD of HLL.
Dr KRS Krishnan, HLL Director, Technical & Operations; Dr Babu Thomas, HLL Senior Vice President (Maketing); Dr Davasis Guha, Head of HLL Corporate R&D Centre; and R Mohandas, HLL’s Chief Biomedical consultant; were among those present at the function.
