PD Hinduja Hospital conducts inaugural session of its Allied Health Sciences courses
PD Hinduja Hospital recently commenced its ‘Allied Health Sciences Courses’ and held an inaugural session to these courses. Dr Rajan M Welukar, Vice Chancellor, Mumbai University was the Chief Guest and Prof S Parasuraman, Director, TISS was the Guest of Honour for the programme. It was attended by faculty from TISS, Mumbai University and various college coordinators.
PD Hinduja Hospital, along with Lifesupporters Institute of Health Sciences (LIHS), has introduced seven new allied health sciences courses. The certificate courses available as full-time and part-time are in the areas of Physician Office Assistant, CSSD Technology, MRD Management, Advanced Medical lab technician, Radiology technician, Dialysis Technician and Operation Theatre Technician. These courses have reportedly been devised in such a way that students undergo a mix of theory sessions by senior doctors and hands on training under guidance of senior technicians. Learnings in the hospital set up provide them hands on experience too. The duration of these courses is one year and is open for H.Sc pass/ Graduates depending on specialisation.
Many of the Allied Health Sciences courses have received an affiliation from the Health Sector Skills Council (HSSC), which is constituted and supported by National Skills Development Corporation. The affiliation from the council makes P.D. Hinduja Hospital the first hospital in the country to have been certified to conduct these allied health courses under Star Scheme of Government of India.
Addressing the audience, Gautam Khanna, CEO, PD Hinduja Hospital said, “This initiative will increase employment opportunities for skilled students/technicians in the healthcare sector. A well trained technologist will also deliver the best healthcare practices required for quality healthcare delivery for the Indian population”. He also thanked LIHS for partnering with P.D Hinduja Hospital in this endeavour.
More than 50 students, who have enrolled for the various courses, participated in the inaugural programme. Joy Chakraborty, COO, P.D. Hinduja Hospital said, “The healthcare industry is growing rapidly and availability of trained manpower is becoming essential. This training and certification will help students to focus on specialised areas identified as per industry requirements and excel in the same. Hospitals too will gain from having a trained person to professionally handle patients, high end equipments thereby improving overall outcome in healthcare delivery.”
