Yashoda Hospitals, Secunderabad organises bariatric awareness programme
Yashoda Group of Hospitals recently organised a bariatric (weight loss surgery) awareness programme which was reportedly attended by over 100 patients who successfully underwent bariatric and around 300 people from Yashoda Hospitals-Secunderabad, including the bariatric surgery team, senior doctors, nutritionists, nurses etc. This initiative aimed to help, support and motivate prospective patients who are thinking of undergoing bariatric surgery.
Speaking on the occasion, Yashoda Hospital’s Senior Surgical Gastroenterologist & Bariatric Surgeon, Dr TLVD Prasad Babu said, “Obesity is a growing health concern in India and our state. Morbid obesity i.e. body mass index (BMI) above 32.5’ is a dangerous disease which can decrease the life span of the individual. Dieting and exercise alone cannot decrease weight once BMI crosses above 30. There are no effective pills available for this purpose. Research has shown that the only effective treatment for treating these patients is bariatric surgery. It not only gives long lasting effective weight loss but also cures obesity related side effects like hypertension, diabetes, sleep apnea, heart diseases, stroke and certain forms of cancer. Obesity can affect almost every organ of the body.”
He further said, ‘Bariatric surgery is done laparoscopically (key hole), resulting in less pain, no scars and faster recovery to the patients. Hence it is the best, reliable and sustainable weight reduction method for obesity which is proven beyond doubt through its safety and efficiency. We at Yashoda Hospital – Secunderabad started this programme giving utmost priority to patient safety. To achieve this, we have invested in acquiring latest technology, infrastructure and a dedicated team of highly qualified doctors. Today, we are proud to say that we have achieved the best possible results with 100 per cent patient safety. Our patients who gathered here are testimony to our results.”
