GoI releases guidelines for Good Samaritans who help road accident victims

As per the guidelines, disclosure of personal information by a Good Samaritan who brings an injured person to the hospital has been made voluntary

The Government of India has officially released guidelines to protect Good Samaritans, who come forward to help injured persons, from the currently prevalent legal and procedural hassles. 

The guidelines have been released to comply with the order of the Supreme Court of India in the case SaveLIFE Foundation vs Union of India (WP 235/2012). As per the guidelines, disclosure of personal information by a Good Samaritan who brings an injured person to the hospital has been made voluntary. A Good Samaritan shall not be liable for any civil or criminal liability, and any Government official who attempts to intimidate the Good Samaritan shall face departmental action. Several other aspects can be found in the attached notification.
