“Highly qualified nurses now opting for clinical care” – Dr PV Vijayaraghavan, Dean, Education, Sri Ramachandra University

“With nursing becoming highly specialised, more and more highly qualified and skilled nurses are now opting out for healthcare nursing”, said Dr PV Vijayaraghavan, Dean, Education, Sri Ramachandra University while speaking at Nurses Day Celebrations to mark the birthday of Florence Nightingale. “Not only M Sc Nursing students are today keen to join healthcare but serving diploma and degree nurses are acquiring higher education. Many have shown keen interest in research some leading to PhDs”, he said.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr KV Somasundaram, Dean of Faculties, SRU said Sri Ramachandra Hospital, attached to the medical college, provides free treatment has 900 nurses for 1200 patients, one of the best ratio in the country.

Vice Chancellor Dr JSN Murthy said that nursing faculty and healthcare nurses are now better integrated bringing the benefit of one to the other.

Prof Prasanna Baby, Principal, Faculty of Nursing and R Suseela, Dy Nursing Superintendent were among those participated in the event.
