Meghalaya to merge its health insurance policy with Ayushman Bharat scheme
Meghalaya Health Minister AL Hek informed that the state will implement the Centre’s Ayushman Bharat – National Health Protection Mission (AB-NHPM).
As per a official statement, Hek made this announcement after the health ministers conclave held in New Delhi, recently.
Hek informed that the state would merge its own Meghalaya Health Insurance Scheme (MHIS) with the AB-NHPM. Under Meghalaya Health Insurance Scheme (MHIS), the existing health insurance cover is Rs 2,80,000 while the AB-NHPM will provide a cover of Rs 5 lakh per family annually.
The state government also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Union Health Ministry.
Till date, the states which have signed the MoU are Assam, Andaman and Nicobar, Bihar, Chattisgarh, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Daman and Diu, Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Jharkhand, Lakshadweep, Madhya Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Puducherry, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarkhand.
The MoU outlines the role of central and state governments/ UT administrations in implementing the scheme. Regional workshops are being planned across India to sign MoU with other states.
