NRDC, SS Medical Systems partner to deploy microwave-based infection control technology
Partnership aims to support biomedical waste sterilisation and infection management in government healthcare facilities using technology developed by SAMEER
National Research Development Corporation has entered into a partnership with SS Medical Systems India to support deployment of microwave-based infection control technology across government healthcare facilities in India.
The technology has been developed by Society for Applied Microwave Electronics Engineering and Research, an autonomous research institution under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.
According to the announcement, the partnership aims to support deployment of the microwave-based infection control system across healthcare institutions through commercialisation and distribution channels.
Speaking on the collaboration, Amit Rastogi, Chairman and Managing Director, NRDC, said, “NRDC’s mandate is to take innovative technologies from laboratories to the market for societal benefit. Through this partnership with SS Medical Systems, we aim to accelerate the deployment of advanced infection control solutions across healthcare institutions and support India’s efforts to build a safer and more resilient healthcare infrastructure.”
Under the agreement, NRDC will promote and commercialise SS Medical Systems’ mobile microwave-based infection control systems through its network across India. The technology is designed to sterilise infectious biomedical waste and support healthcare facilities in strengthening infection management systems in an environmentally sustainable manner.
Monish Bhandari, Chairman and Managing Director, SS Medical Systems India Pvt. Ltd., said, “Our microwave-based infection control system provides an effective and sustainable solution for managing infectious biomedical waste and preventing hospital-acquired infections. With NRDC’s strong national network and expertise in technology commercialization, we believe this innovation can significantly improve patient safety and hospital hygiene standards across the country.”
He further added, “Technologies developed by SAMEER aim to address critical national challenges through advanced engineering solutions. The deployment of microwave-based infection control systems will play an important role in improving biomedical waste management and strengthening infection control practices in healthcare facilities.”
According to the announcement, the technology is expected to reduce hospital-acquired infections, lower antimicrobial resistance risks, and support infection management practices in healthcare institutions. The deployment may also support hospital bed availability through infection control and waste management systems.
NRDC functions as a public sector undertaking under the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research and works with research institutions and industry to support technology transfer, licensing and commercialisation initiatives.
The partnership has been announced as part of efforts to strengthen the healthcare innovation ecosystem and support the development of public health infrastructure in India.
