SomniScan brings sleep diagnostics to home-based testing in India

Platform enables polysomnography at home for sleep disorder diagnosis

SomniScan is enabling sleep diagnostics by offering polysomnography (PSG) at home, allowing patients to undergo sleep studies without hospital admission. The approach focuses on providing diagnostic access outside hospital settings. “From sleep labs to living rooms, without compromising on accuracy.”

Sleep disorders in India remain underdiagnosed, with nearly 80 per cent of sleep apnoea cases undetected. According to All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), an estimated 10.3 million people in India are affected. Traditional sleep studies are conducted in hospitals, require overnight stays and involve cost and access limitations, leading to delays in diagnosis and increased risk of conditions such as hypertension, diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

SomniScan provides a system that captures physiological signals including brain activity (EEG), enabling sleep staging such as REM, light and deep sleep. The system uses polysomnography with sensors and electrodes and operates with high sampling rates for data recording.

Each study is scored by trained sleep technologists certified as RPSGTs, following AASM guidelines. Reports are delivered within 24 to 48 hours. The system allows patients to undergo testing in their home environment, addressing the first night effect associated with hospital-based studies.

Pranav Kaistha, Sleep Diagnostics Specialist (RPSGT) and Co-Founder, SomniScan, said, “SomniScan is designed to ensure that patients no longer have to choose between convenience and clinical accuracy. We are making gold-standard sleep diagnostics as accessible as a routine blood test.”

SomniScan supports use cases including sleep apnoea diagnosis, CPAP titration and evaluation of sleep disorders through home-based diagnostics.
