UL to offer educational, assessment and advisory products

Underwriters Laboratories (UL), a leader in safety science, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Association of Healthcare Providers India (AHPI), to offer preferred educational, assessment and advisory products to member hospitals and organisations of AHPI. Reportedly, this partnership will help enable safer and more efficient healthcare through the development and implementation of continuous improvement methodologies. AHPI will facilitate UL’s hosting of seminars, workshops, assessments, and improvement events to its member organisations.

Scot Webster, Sr VP and GM of UL’s Continuous Improvement Business, said, “We are excited to help AHPI become leaders in safer, higher quality and more efficient healthcare. Our team’s experience in helping leading healthcare organisations around the world embrace lean techniques and a culture of continuous improvement is one of the best ways we live UL’s mission of working for a safer world.”

This initiative builds on UL’s commitment to help ensure quality standards that will further develop a culture of quality healthcare. This will strengthen our presence in healthcare industry and help disseminate systems and education material that will further drive this industry,” said Suresh Sugavanam, MD, UL India and South Asia.

Said Dr Girdhar Gyani, Director General AHPI, “Healthcare today is facing twin challenges -patient safety and affordability, there is a need to address these by the use of standard treatment guidelines including WHO patient safety goals, conduct of clinical audits, measure clinical outcomes and benchmark it with Global values. Affordability is linked with improving efficiency of processes and systems. Healthcare sector could learn from the IT and Automobile sectors to deploy quality management and statistical tools. There is ample scope of applying tools like 7-QC, LEAN, 5S, Six Sigma, Balance Score Card. UL with its rich experience can help play a leading role in facilitating Indian healthcare industry in application of these tools.”
