Wockhardt Hospitals, Mira Road, inaugurated its robotic knee replacement programme on 21 July 2025 with the launch of the MISSO Robotic System. The event, held at the hospital’s 14th floor auditorium, was led by Dr. Parag Rindani, Group CEO, Wockhardt Hospitals, and Dr Sushil Kumar, Centre Head, Wockhardt Hospitals, Mira Road.

The launch event featured sessions by orthopaedic specialists including Dr Saikat Jena, Consultant Orthopaedic and Joint Replacement Surgeon; Dr. Supreet Bajwa, Consultant Hip and Knee Surgeon; Dr Ronak V. Shah, Consultant Joint Replacement Surgeon; and Dr. Manojkumar Gaddikeri, Consultant Spine Surgeon — all based at Wockhardt Hospitals, Mira Road.

The MISSO Robotic System is designed to support knee replacement procedures with increased surgical accuracy. Key outcomes highlighted by the hospital include improved implant alignment, reduced tissue damage, and lower intraoperative blood loss. The robotic assistance is expected to help decrease post-operative pain and enable quicker rehabilitation and hospital discharge.

The system incorporates 3D visualisation and real-time intraoperative feedback to allow for personalised surgical planning. According to the hospital, this supports more accurate bone cuts and joint balancing, potentially contributing to longer implant durability and improved mobility.

Zahabiya Khorakiwala, Managing Director, Wockhardt Hospitals, stated, “At Wockhardt, we have consistently focused on bringing the best global technologies for our patients. The successful launch of robotic knee replacement in Mira Road marks a milestone in delivering precise, minimally invasive care that enhances quality of life.”

Dr Parag Rindani, Group CEO, Wockhardt Hospitals, commented, “Robotic technology is transforming the orthopaedic landscape by improving surgical accuracy and patient recovery timelines. This initiative reflects our commitment to providing advanced, evidence-based care to our community.”

Dr Sushil Kumar, Centre Head, Wockhardt Hospitals, Mira Road, added, “The MISSO Robotic System has already demonstrated its value in reducing pain, ensuring quicker recovery, and improving surgical outcomes. Our patients now have access to the best in knee care, making the surgery less daunting and more effective.”
