Impure air, in recent times, has come to be amongst one of our most prominent problems and health concerns including respiratory diseases and it is not just about outdoor air. A UN Environment Programme (UNEP) report found that indoor air pollution contributes 22- 52 per cent to the overall ambient pollution levels which multiplies the burden of respiratory diseases.

In an effort to address the situation of poor indoor air quality, 3M has been working extensively to come up with easy-to-use air filtration solutions. After their launch of the Electrostatic PM2.5 AC Filter, a DIY solution for improving indoor air quality, 3M has now launched two even more impactful variants with a superior technology. These variants facilitate better air flow through the ACs while trapping airborne particles and delivering cleaner, healthier air. These two variants target specific challenges that users face including pollen, dust mite debris and other allergens, which are prevalent in cities including Bengaluru, Mumbai and others.

The new Household Dust variant of 3M AC Filter can filter up to 90 per cent* of PM 2.5 within two hours of use, whereas the Allergen variant, which is certified asthma and allergy-friendly by Allergy Standards (ASL), captures up to 93 per cent* in the same amount of time. Both varieties are made with unique Filtrete brand 3-in-1 technology, which traps unwanted airborne particles, without compromising on cooling. The Household Dust AC Filter variant is tough on particles like dust mite debris, mould spores, pollen and household dust, and the Allergen AC Filter variant captures a wider range and higher percentage of allergens which includes these particles as well as pet dander. The asthma and allergy friendly Certification by Allergy Standards (ASL) for the Allergen variant of 3M AC Filter indicates that the product has been scientifically tested and identified as more suitable for people with asthma and allergies. It has been suggested by various reports that groups including pregnant women, young children and babies, elderly people and those with pulmonological issues like asthma or allergies may be particularly sensitive to the decline in air quality.

Talking about the filters, Sanjit Satapathy, Head, Consumer Business Group, 3M India, said: “In the last couple of years, air quality has become a growing concern in India, especially in urban areas. Reports are proving that indoor air can be two to five times worse than the air outside. Furthermore, an increasing number of people are reporting sensitivities to pollen and other airborne particles, particularly during season change. As leaders in innovation, we at 3M believe in applying science to life, to help make everyday life better for everyone. Right now, even more so, there is an increasing concern regarding recirculation of air in crowded places by ACs, which may contribute to the transmission and spread of COVID-19. Our new AC filters are an ideal option to help improve air quality in Indian homes, offices and clinics which relay on wall-mounted ACs and are backed by our proven track record in meeting the highest international standards of quality and performance.”

Each pack of the new Household Dust and Allergen AC Filters contain four filtration sheets that can be easily installed in split ACs as a DIY installation, without any help from a technician or using any tools. The pack also contains two filter change indicators which help the user to understand when their installed filter needs to be replaced for best results in terms of air filtration and air flow.
