The innovative surgery known as hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy combines chemotherapy and surgery to treat cancers in the abdomen

Hyperthermic Intraperitoneal Chemotherapy or HIPEC Surgery, one of the most innovative methods in the field of cancer surgery, has been successfully completed on 100 patients at Aster MIMS, Calicut, a unit of Aster DM Healthcare. Hyperexcitability is a relief for patients with peritoneal cancer and pseudo myxoma peritoneum, which are usually difficult to operate. The surgeries were led by Dr Salim V.P, Senior Consultant Oncosurgeon, Aster MIMS, Calicut and Dr Jem Kalathil, Senior Consultant- Surgical Oncology, Aster Medicity, Kochi along with a team of other surgeons and medical staff.

To announce this, the press conference was graced by Aster MIMS Regional Director Farhan Yasin, Dr Jem Kalathil and Dr Salim V.P along with Dr K.V. Gangadharan (Head, Department of Oncology), Dr Sajith Babu (Senior Consultant Head & Neck Onco Surgeon) and Dr Murali Krishnan (Senior Consultant Neuro Oncology Surgeon). As a conjunction to this achievement and to further enhance cancer treatment and access, the first neuro oncology surgery unit in North Kerala under the leadership of Dr Murali Krishnan was launched. The Neuro-Oncology department will provide treatment for patients with cancers of the brain and nervous system. Aster experts will also provide care for patients that endure neurologic complications from cancer or cancer therapies.

Furthermore, due to minimal advanced cancer surgery methods in Kerala, including hyperectomy, The Cancer Surgery Unit of Aster MIMS has extended its operations in Kochi, Kozhikode, Kannur, Kottakal. In addition to general cancer surgeries, interventions are available in 3 major districts in Kerala by Aster MIMS experts for surgeries including, gynaecological oncology, hyperexcitability, paediatric oncology, breast cancer surgery, head and neck oncology, neuro oncology surgery, breast reconstruction surgery, and cervical cancer.

Comprehending the financial challenges faced by poor families and others due to costly cancer treatments, the option of providing surgery at the lowest possible and performing free surgeries for children below 12 years of age is steadily ensuing with the help of DM Foundation Aster MIMS Trust in connection with several NGO’s volunteers and charitable organisations.
