India’s pharma sector gathers for national GMP conference at medtech zone
Policymakers, industry leaders, and regulators gather at Andhra Pradesh MedTech Zone to discuss GMP’s role in pharma manufacturing
A national conference on “Enhancing Pharmaceutical Quality Assurance through Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP)” was held today at the Andhra Pradesh MedTech Zone (AMTZ). The event was organised by the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI) in collaboration with the Department of Pharmaceuticals, Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, and AMTZ. The conference highlighted the significance of GMP in ensuring the production of safe, effective, and high-quality pharmaceutical products.
The conference reinforced that GMP is more than a regulatory requirement, describing it as a framework that guarantees product quality, safety, and efficacy. Discussions focused on how standardisation, meticulous documentation, and strong quality control measures can reduce risks such as contamination and defects. Industry leaders also stressed the importance of integrating GMP with new technologies to streamline processes and align with global standards.
In the current business environment, attracting investments is essential for companies aiming to expand operations, enhance products, and increase market share. The adoption of GMP is seen as a crucial factor in attracting investors to the pharmaceutical sector.
Dr Nasir Jamal, Director, PHDCCI, commented: “Good Manufacturing Practices are foundational for ensuring the production of high-quality, safe, and effective pharmaceutical products. Through initiatives like GMP and the revamped RPTUAS, India’s pharmaceutical sector can achieve global competitiveness while safeguarding public health.”
Dr Jitendra Sharma, Managing Director and CEO of AMTZ, discussed the progress of AMTZ, stating, “AMTZ has always aimed to bridge science and business for societal good. With initiatives like the GMP-focused certification and validation ecosystem, we aim to empower industries to align certification, regulation, and production seamlessly. Our journey from concept to reality is a testament to collaborative efforts in transforming healthcare manufacturing in India.”
Dharmendra Kumar Yadav highlighted the future of the pharmaceutical sector, saying: “The future is filled with opportunities, but it also demands innovation and, above all, a commitment to quality.”
The conference featured a series of presentations by prominent speakers, including Dr Nasir Jamal, Dr Jitendra Sharma, Poosarla Rajesh, Dr Kilari Eswar Kumar, and K. Bhuvaneswari. A detailed presentation on the RPTUAS scheme was delivered by Yashwant Shinde from SIDBI, offering participants insights into its benefits for technological advancements in the pharmaceutical sector.
The conference served as a unified effort to enhance India’s pharmaceutical manufacturing through quality assurance and innovation. GMP ensures patient safety, while the RPTUAS scheme supports industries in modernising and scaling operations to compete globally.
