NU Hospitals, a specialised healthcare institution focusing on urology, kidney care, fertility and kidney transplantation, unveiled the AMS EDGE Robotic Surgical System in Bengaluru, marking a significant step forward in its commitment to advancing specialised surgical care through technology and innovation.

The launch was attended by chief guest Ramesh Aravind, actor, filmmaker, director, writer and television host, alongside Dr Venkatesh Krishnamoorthy, Chairman, NU Hospitals, Dr Dilip Rangarajan, Group Medical Director, NU Hospitals and Dr Prasanna Venkatesh M K, Managing Director, NU Hospitals. The hospital also unveiled the NU App, designed to simplify access to healthcare services, and The Link 2024 – 26, its annual publication highlighting the institution’s vision, achievements and journey.

The AMS EDGE Robotic Surgical System marked a step forward in specialised surgical care. Equipped with high-definition 3D vision offering up to 10x magnification, a flexible four-arm robotic system and articulated instruments, it was designed to support surgeons with enhanced visualisation, precision and control during complex procedures. AI-assisted imaging, indocyanine green (ICG) fluorescence technology and advanced display capabilities further supported the visualisation of anatomical structures. The system also offered telesurgery capabilities for remote connectivity and collaboration.

Compared with conventional open surgery and standard laparoscopy, robotic-assisted surgery offers greater instrument flexibility and enhanced visualisation. Depending on the procedure and individual patient, these capabilities may contribute to reduced blood loss, less post-operative pain, shorter hospital stays and faster recovery, while keeping surgical expertise and patient safety central to care.

Dr Prasanna Venkatesh M K, Managing Director, Sr. Consultant Paediatric Urologist, Robotic and Renal Transplant Surgeon, NU Hospitals, said, “Our focus has always been to advance specialised healthcare while keeping patients at the centre of every decision. The introduction of robotic surgical technology reflects our commitment to adopting meaningful innovations that support surgical expertise, improve precision and strengthen the quality of care we deliver.”

Dr Venkatesh Krishnamoorthy, Chairman, NU Hospitals, said, “Every milestone reflects the trust our patients place in us and the commitment of our teams. As healthcare continues to evolve, our responsibility is to keep improving, embrace meaningful advancements and ensure that compassionate care remains at the heart of everything we do.”

Alongside advancements in surgical care, the NU App was introduced to make healthcare services more convenient and accessible. The digital platform brought together appointment scheduling, online payments, consultations, medical records and reports, prescriptions, online medicine orders and home-based laboratory sample collection. By bringing these services together, the app aimed to simplify routine healthcare interactions and help patients manage different aspects of their care through a single platform.

Dr Dilip Rangarajan, Group Medical Director, NU Hospitals, said, “Technology can make a meaningful difference when it simplifies care for patients and supports clinical teams. Through the NU App, we aim to make essential healthcare services easier to access, helping patients navigate appointments, consultations and medical information with greater convenience.”

The third initiative, The Link 2024 – 26, captured NU Hospitals’ vision, mission, achievements, activities and team experiences. The annual publication documented the institution’s journey of growth and medical excellence while recognising the collective efforts, dedication and shared aspirations of its people.

Ramesh Aravind, Chief Guest, Actor, Filmmaker, Director, Writer and Television Host, attended the unveiling and joined NU Hospitals in celebrating the three milestones. He said, “When technology and compassion come together, healthcare can make a real difference in people’s lives.”

NU Hospitals’ journey has included more than 750 kidney transplants, over 200 robotic surgeries, more than 50 paediatric robotic surgeries and over 12 lakh lives touched. NU Hospitals operates three branches in Bengaluru, located in Rajajinagar, Padmanabhanagar and Mission Road, along with centres in Shivamogga, Ambur in Tamil Nadu, and the Maldives.

Together, the three initiatives reflected NU Hospitals’ long-term vision of building a future-ready healthcare ecosystem that combines clinical excellence, technological innovation and accessible services to advance specialised Nephro-Uro care.
