Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences organises AHSCON 2020

Nearly 2,400 delegates from different parts of India attended AHSCON 2020. The three-day event saw a series of workshops that took place at 11 different locations in Bengaluru for 17 allied courses

Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) recently organised Allied Health Sciences Conference (AHSCON) 2020 — the first ever conference for Allied Health Science Fraternity across India that focussed on the possibilities and opportunities of ALLIED courses in the field of healthcare. The objective of the event was to create a public awareness, introduction to new techniques and showcasing the need and importance of research in these respective courses. Held on the 25th anniversary of RGUHS, the event also included various activities like a pre-conference workshop followed by conference.

South Bengaluru MP Tejasvi Surya, Chief Guest at the conference and Guest of Honour Ashish Jain, CEO, Healthcare Sector Skill Council, India, along with Dr KB Lingegowda, Registrar; Dr Sachidanand, Vice Chancellor, RGUHS inaugurated the conference. During the summit, the first online journal site for AHS was also launched by Surya. Followed by this, there were many multidisciplinary sessions for delegates along with model and poster presentation.

Renowned speakers like Dr Thuppil Venkatesh, CEO and Director, Foundation For Quality India, delivered a talk on quality assurance in healthcare; Ramjee Pallela, COO, Atal Incubation Centre, Hyderabad, spoke about funding opportunity for medical research in India; Nikhil Velpanur, Head of Partnerships and Communications, Wadhwani Institute of Artificial Intelligence, Mumbai, spoke on Artificial Intelligence (AI) in healthcare; Dr Vishal Rao, consultant surgical oncologist, HCG hospitals, Bengaluru, spoke about startups in healthcare; Professor Lakhsmi Shindey, Shindey Eye care, Bengaluru, shed light on CL practice; Dr Rammohan Sripad Bhat, Consultant Nephrology, Narayana Health, Bengaluru, talked about recent advances in renal replacement supportive therapies.

AHSCON 2020 hosted two panel discussions: Common syllabus for AHS by various representatives of health universities along with a discussions on industry/hospital requirement from the AHS Fraternity. Apart from it, AHSCON 2020 also gave a platform to the delegates for taking part in cultural competition which was a grand success.

For the valedictory ceremony, there were Dr BN Gangadhar, Director, NIMHANS; Dr CN Manjunath, Cardiologist, Jayedeva; Dr Sachidananda, VC, RGUHS and Proffesor Rajesh Shenoy, Chairman, Organising Committee, who presented the certificates to the winners from the different events.

During the conference, the participants had the opportunity to explore different stalls put up by various companies and institutes to showcase brand. The young minds also had a chance to interact with different resource persons related to their field. It had also given a clear idea to initiate the thought of research and the process to get a grant for it.
