The conference was held on the theme ‘Breast Cancer— Get Informed, Pass It On’

Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute & Research Centre (RGCIRC) recently held its 3rd annual conference NURSICON, 2015 to explore the role of nursing in treating breast cancer and provide latest strategies to prevent complications.

The theme for NURSICON, 2015 was Breast Cancer: Get Informed, Pass It On. The conference focussed on latest updates in breast cancer research and practice as well as determining new directions for management of lymphedema through the workshop. The nurses were sensitised about the critical role they play in handling breast cancer patients and were briefed about the latest prevention techniques to deal with complications.

Dr Gauri Kapoor, Director, Paediatric Hemato-Oncology, RGCIRC said, “Nurses are the backbone of care delivery systems, which includes prevention, detection, education, counseling, screening, diagnostic procedures, etc. In that case, it becomes very important to train and update them on latest trends, researches and practices. NURSICON aims at training nurses about the management of the disease and latest strategies to prevent any kind of complications.”

During the conference, Maitri – a support group of breast cancer survivors, was also launched to motivate patients and spread awareness on breast cancer.

Such events and platforms are a great source to connect, clear doubts and discuss about various issues, and also to know about latest researches and practices,” said Dr DC Doval, Director, Medical Oncology & Clinical Research, RGCIRC.

The conference was reportedly attended by over 400 nurses from across National Capital Territory.
