The Rotary Club of Bombay announced the foundation stone laying of its first ‘Elder’s Day Care Centre’ at Aawas village in Alibaug. The foundation stone was laid by Dr Mukesh Batra, President, Rotary Club and Founder & Chairman Emeritus, Dr Batra’s(R) Group of Companies. Spread across an area of 2,600 sq ft, the construction is likely to be completed in a year’s time.

The Elder’s Day Care Centre will cater to all the nearby villages of Aawas. Once completed, the panchayat will manage and maintain the centre in conjunction with the Rotary Club of Bombay.

Speaking at the ceremony, Dr Mukesh Batra said, “With the rise of nuclear families, the concept of day care centres for senior citizens is fast catching up in India. Day care centres for senior citizens are a boon as not only do they help them socialise with people of their own age-groups but they also give them a chance to engage in indoor games, yoga, gardening, reading and other areas of interest. We are thankful to the village panchayat for offering us the plot and our benefactors for their continuous support to meet the cost of construction.”

Chairman of the Senior Citizens Committee, Past President Rotarian Ashish Vaid said, “I feel that there is a dire need for such a centre. Many young couples can go to work leaving the elders in the day care centre where they will have company and also be well looked after. Light meals are also planned for the elders.”
