Healthcare leaders discuss governance, culture and leadership at AHPI CXO meet in Mumbai
The April 22 gathering, led by AHPI Director General Dr Girdhar Gyani and Hinduja Hospital COO Joy Chakraborty, focused on leadership roles, ethical governance and collaborative learning in healthcare
Over 26 senior healthcare executives from across India convened on April 22 at Hotel Sofitel, Mumbai, for a CXO meeting facilitated by the Association of Healthcare Providers (India) (AHPI). The session was held under the leadership of Dr Girdhar Gyani, Director General of AHPI, and Joy Chakraborty, Chief Operating Officer of Hinduja Hospital.
The meeting aimed to foster a conversation around leadership in healthcare, focusing on governance frameworks, organisational culture, and the evolving responsibilities of CXOs in ensuring quality and resilience within their institutions.
Chakraborty delivered the opening address, where he highlighted the growing responsibilities of healthcare leaders. He said the need for cohesive leadership was critical in navigating operational change while maintaining a focus on quality.
Dr Gyani shared his views on the role of leadership in healthcare, stating, “For healthcare to truly evolve, leadership must move beyond strategy and finance to embrace quality, transparency, and values-based governance. This forum reinforces the idea that CXOs are not just operational heads—they are the custodians of trust and culture within their institutions. The discussions today mark a step forward in creating leadership that is both accountable and purpose-driven.”
Participants engaged in discussions on topics such as building accountable leadership, fostering workplace cultures aligned with organisational purpose, and reinforcing ethical decision-making within healthcare institutions. Given the scrutiny under which the industry operates—due to regulatory requirements, patient safety considerations, and operational challenges—attendees noted the value of collective learning and inter-institutional dialogue.
A dignitary from the healthcare sector shared thoughts on the session, noting, “It’s not often that leaders from diverse healthcare institutions come together in such an open and collaborative environment. What stood out in this meeting was the sincerity and depth of the dialogue—leaders weren’t here to represent institutions, but to collectively reimagine the future of healthcare leadership. This kind of platform is essential for driving lasting, system-wide transformation.”
Dr Shilpa Tatake, Group COO of Jupiter Hospital, delivered the closing remarks. She thanked attendees for their participation and underscored the role of such forums in enabling knowledge-sharing and preparing leaders for future healthcare challenges.
The session also reflected AHPI’s ongoing efforts to support ethical healthcare governance and policy-shaping through leadership engagement and sector-wide dialogue. As the healthcare landscape continues to evolve, such meetings are positioned as critical forums for strengthening institutional capabilities and improving patient outcomes.
