On the occasion of World Heart Day, the hospital aims to detect any kind of cardiac ailments in young children
SRCC Children’s Hospital, a Super Specialty Tertiary Care pediatric facility at Haji Ali managed by Narayana Health, to launch a free cardiac screening camp between September 29 to October 6 on the occasion of World Heart Day. The camp will be open between 9:00 am to 5:00 pm for children till the age of 18 years.
Commenting on the launch of the camp, Dr Soonu Udani, Medical Director, SRCC Children’s Hospital managed by Narayana Health said, “We have been conducting series of medical camps across Maharashtra for various ailments. Pediatric cardiac care is one of our key specialities at the hospital and we have best doctors in the industry, trained medical staff and top class equipments’.”
“Through this cardiac screening camp, we aim to screen hundreds of children in Mumbai who are suffering from cardiac disorders. With the help of our trained and experienced doctors, we will be able to guide them for their further precise treatment to cure their cardiac ailments, he added.
The hospital since its inception last year, have done several cardiac screening camps across rural Maharashtra at Mumbai, Pune, Nashik, Sangli, Kolhapur, Amravati, Beed, Satara, Malegaon, Daund, Nandurbar etc and have screened around 1500 children at these camps suffering for various cardiac ailments. A sizeable of children in these regions needed immediate cardiac surgeries.
Dr Supratim Sen, Senior Pediatric Cardiac Surgeon, SRCC Children’s Hospital managed by Narayana Health who spearheaded the yearlong cardiac camps done across Maharashtra said, “These innocent children need immediate medical attention and due to their financial challenges they are not been able to get treatment. There are various government initiatives under which such children could be treated. We have treated over 70 per cent children with cardiac disorders through financial aids from the state government.”

With India’s population in excess of 1.2 billion, and a birth rate of 19.3/1000, it can be estimated that nearly 2, 20, 000 children are born annually with heart defects. This translates into the sobering fact that India has the largest burden of congenital heart defects in the world. The Indian Academy of Pediatrics has identified birth defects of the heart as a major contributor to infant deaths in the state of Kerala, Maharashtra, Punjab, and Himachal Pradesh.
