As a part of its corporate social responsibility, for the benefit of thalassemic children, Transasia Bio-Medicals, joined hands with PATUT, to organise ‘Nayaab Lamhe’, a musical concert by Pankaj Udhas, in Mumbai. For over ten years now, Transasia and Parent Association Thalassemic Unit Trust (PATUT), have been actively associated in the commitment to the cause of thalassemic children. More than 400 pathologists from across the city attended the event on behalf of Transasia.

As the President of PATUT, Ghazal maestro Pankaj Udhas set the mood with his soulful, romantic and timeless ghazals.

Over the last two years, Transasia has organised awareness camps in more than 12 colleges across Mumbai and conducted screening tests on more than 2500 students. Infact, PATUT and Transasia have together organised numerous dedicated initiatives such as blood donation drives, equipping diagnostic centres with the required instruments and contributing to fund-raising activities for the benefit of thalassemic children.

PATUT is a non-profitable organisation set up by parents who leave no stone unturned to ensure that their thalassemic children get a second chance at life. Through its association with various hospitals, PATUT arranges and mobilizes funds for Bone Marrow Transplant (BMT), a last resort procedure for most thalassemic children. So far, PATUT has arranged funds and sponsored 150 BMTs in the last five years.

Speaking at the occasion, Suresh Vazirani, CMD, Transasia said, “I am proud of Transasia’s continuing ten-year-old association with PATUT, Jasmine Majethia and Padmashree Pankaj Udhas in aid of a very noble cause of thalassemic children. From helping four children in 1982 to establishing centres for spreading awareness, detection, counselling and prevention of thalassemia, the impact of the good work done by PATUT has spread far and beyond. At Transasia, we believe in operating with a higher purpose, with an unwavering focus on our customers and the patients they serve. Thalassemia is a cause we very closely associate with. We are glad that with our haematology range of analysers, we are able to contribute to the early and accurate diagnosis of thalassemia and its associated adversities, giving the patients a chance for timely treatment.”

Dr VH Juvekar, General Manager, Haffkine Biopharmaceutical Corporation remarked, “Thalassemia is a growing concern for the country. Today, 35-45 million Indians, are carriers of beta-thalassemia, which translates to 3-4 per cent of India’s population. It is heart rending to see so many young children, loosing their lives to the condition, for want of a Bone Marrow Transplant. Transasia and PATUT are doing a splendid job, to reach out to these children. I am thankful to Transasia for giving me an opportunity to be a part of this wonderful evening of soulful ghazals by Pankaj Udhas and to see his dedication towards this noble cause.”
