Danone India launches anaemia and malnutrition awareness project in Uttar Pradesh

Programme to cover three districts with screening, training and school outreach initiatives

Danone India, in partnership with the Department of Family Health and Welfare Uttar Pradesh, announced the launch of an Iron Deficiency Anaemia and Protein Malnutrition Awareness Project in Lucknow, Siddharthnagar and Shravasti.

The initiative aims to address iron deficiency anaemia and protein malnutrition through awareness, screening and community-level interventions. The programme is being implemented in partnership with Grow Well Foundation and will be rolled out across selected districts with a plan for scale-up.

Dr H D Aggarwal, Director General Family Welfare, Uttar Pradesh, said: “Addressing iron deficiency Anemia and protein malnutrition remains a key public health priority for us, especially given its long-term impact on children’s health and development. This initiative is a meaningful step towards strengthening early detection and awareness at the community level. We value partnerships like this, where organisations such as Danone India bring in scientific expertise and on-ground execution capabilities to complement government efforts. Together, such collaborations can help accelerate progress towards a healthier, Anemia-free Uttar Pradesh.“

As part of the programme, over 100,000 children will undergo non-invasive anaemia screening, and more than 2,000 health workers will be trained to conduct screening and spread awareness on nutrition. The initiative is expected to reach approximately 250,000 students through school-based engagement and awareness programmes.

The programme will also include a public campaign anthem titled “India ka Iron Up karenge” to support community awareness.

The initiative focuses on early detection, nutrition awareness and collaboration among community health stakeholders, with a focus on women and children.

Danone India stated that it will continue to support nutrition programmes through partnerships and related initiatives.
