Wockhardt Hospitals, Mumbai Central recently organised a Meet & Greet the author’s session for the book “Finding Your Balance”, Your 360 Degree Guide to Perimenopause and Beyond written by Dr Nozer Sheriar, one of Mumbai’s well-known gynecologists and Shonali Sabherwal, a macrobiotic nutritionist and gut expert.

As women march toward their 50s, they experience changes in their menstrual cycles which leads to a lot of confusion in their minds. Women are very reluctant to discuss this openly. This could be a sign of perimenopause, a natural stage in every woman’s life. However, it is one of the important stages of women’s health, but due to a lack of discussion within society, this subject has always been neglected to lead to one of the major causes of various health issues noticed within women. This book helps women navigate the territory that comes in the perimenopause years leading up to menopause and beyond.

According to Zahabiya Khorakiwala MD, Wockhardt Hospitals “The book serves as a bible for women who are stepping into perimenopause or menopause. Speaking openly about perimenopause is a need of the hour. This book clearly differentiates perimenopause from menopause, which many people have not yet had the chance to understand. Conversations around periods and menopause tend to be either feminist battle points or pure medical science”.

According to Dr Sheriar, “The contemporary woman is faced with new and unique challenges in her everyday life. The book discusses how these stresses affect her and seek to present the impact of lifestyle and environmental stressors. It also seeks to introduce women to their own hormones and help them recognise the reality and consequences of menopause as a hormone-deficiency state. The medical aspects of the book outline each hormone—why they are needed, their functions, and the results of lack or excess that would lead to perimenopausal disturbances”.

This book will serve as a guide for women approaching the perimenopause phase and post-menopause.
