World Immunization Week is observed from April 24th to April 30th every year. This year the theme for World Immunization Week is ‘For Every Generation, Vaccines Work’ and celebrates the life-saving impact of vaccines, raising awareness surrounding the importance of immunization across every stage of life. It also focuses on the way vaccines protect people of all age-group- from children, infants to adults and senior citizens.

Vaccines have been regarded as one of the most powerful public health tools, saving the lives of over 150 million people. At present vaccines against HPV, malaria, meningitis, dengue, and others, are saving greater number of lives, enabling people at every stage of life to live longer and in a healthier way. For years, vaccinations have helped to lower hospitalisations and prevented critical diseases.

The theme for World Immunization Week this year throws a light on how vaccination is not just for the children. Though childhood immunization is significant, vaccines also play a crucial role in adult, adolescent and elderly healthcare. For younger generations, vaccines give a healthy start to life by preventing  potentially life-threatening childhood diseases. For working age adults, immunization helps in reducing health risks and complications arising from infections. For older adults, vaccines help in lowering the risk of extreme diseases, supporting healthier ageing.

In the evolving healthcare landscape of the current times, digital health services, vaccination models such as at-home vaccination services and pharmacy-led, awareness campaigns  are helping to turn preventive healthcare more efficient as well as easy for modern families.

Sharing his thoughts on World Immunization Week, Gaurav Verma, Chief Business Officer, PharmEasy, said: “Vaccination remains one of the most effective, evidence-backed interventions in preventive healthcare. It significantly reduces the burden of infectious diseases and their complications. At PharmEasy, we are focused on strengthening preventive care by driving awareness around vaccine-preventable illnesses and improving access to essential immunization services. Adult vaccination is often overlooked despite clear clinical recommendations for vaccines such as Influenza, HPV, Typhoid, Hepatitis, and Pneumococcal, particularly for individuals with underlying risk factors or comorbidities. Our at-home vaccination service aims to address this gap by enabling safe, convenient, and timely access to these vaccines in the comfort of one’s home. By making preventive care more accessible, we aim to empower more people to take charge of their health and contribute to a broader reduction in avoidable disease burden.”

Commenting on the occasion of World Immunization Week, Uday Kadam, Chief Operating Officer (API Holdings), Chief Business Officer (B2B), shared:  “Vaccination isn’t just about access, it’s about maintaining quality through every step of the supply chain. Since vaccines are temperature-sensitive products, even small deviations from recommended conditions can impact their effectiveness. We have built robust, end-to-end cold chain infrastructure and monitoring systems to ensure that every vaccine is stored, handled, and transported within recommended temperature ranges. From sourcing to last-mile delivery, our processes are designed to minimize risk and maintain clinical quality standards.  As we scale at-home vaccination, the complexity increases, but so does the need for precision. We’re focused on building reliable, tech-enabled cold chain systems that ensure vaccines are not just accessible, but safe and effective when they reach the end user.”

World Immunization Week serves as a reminder for healthcare providers, governments, organisations, and citizens for prioritising vaccines as the pillar of lifelong wellness.
